Are you game? - Article
Suriya is all set to make a big impact on the small screen as the host of Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi, the Tamil version of KBC. The show will be launched on Vijay TV in February 2012
We have seen Suriya play larger-than-life roles in films such as “Perazhagan,” “Ghajini,” “Singam” and “7-aam Arivu.” In fact, in most of the films he has done, we remember him as the characters — such has been his portrayal. Now, we will see Suriya as Suriya — stylish, suave, natural and, of course, handsome — not on the silver screen but on television, as the host of Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi (NVOK), the Tamil version of Kaun Banega Crorepathi (KBC).Game changer
“This is my small screen debut, and I am excited it is through a well-established game show. It will give me an opportunity to meet the common people and connect with them, something I have never been able to do as a film star,” says Suriya, who is in the midst of an orientation workshop with Siddhartha Basu, director of KBC and NVOK. At this orientation, Suriya has had the chance to see Amitabh Bachchan (AB) in action on the set of KBC. “During the several days I spent in Mumbai, I have closely observed how AB works. Despite his stature and busy schedule, the hard work he puts in each episode is beyond compare. I think it is this dedication that's responsible for the show's success,” observes Suriya. Did he get any advice from AB? “No. The sheer energy he exudes, his total involvement during the preparation for the shoot and his absolute concentration taught me many lessons. He is a perfectionist!”
The USP
The shooting of NVOK's first season begins in January 2012 and the show is all set to be launched in February 2012. Talking about Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi, K. Sriram, general manager, Vijay TV, says, “This is truly the first international format to hit the Tamil television screens and we are excited about it. We are proud we have managed to rope in Suriya to host the show. Easily, he is the USP. This programme will be a game changer not only for Vijay TV but also for Tamil television. To strengthen the channel, we plan to launch two allied shows. We have planned an extensive, never-before-seen marketing campaign.” There is a whopping Rs. 1 crore to be won — an amount that can change an ordinary man's life forever.
New audiences
For Suriya, it is a great chance to explore new markets. “The TV audience is six times more than that for cinema. NVOK will show my viewers the real me and not as any character I usually portray in films. The show will give me a chance to tell them that I am as down-to-earth as they are. I think it will give me a totally different image that will help me in my career as an actor,” says Suriya.
In the midst of “Maatran” and a forthcoming film with director Hari, how does he manage to do a show like NVOK? “Thankfully, I am doing only ‘Maatran' now and have managed to allot substantial time for this show. We will shoot extensively to can as many episodes as possible before I start my next film around March or April next year,” says Suriya.
Call for Entry
The mechanism to participate in the show will be announced on Vijay TV on December 25. Viewers will be given five days, i.e. between December 25 and 30, to contest and win a chance to take the hot seat opposite Suriya.
The Call for Entry (CFE) is open only for five days after which the lines will be closed. All arrangements have been made to avoid jamming of lines given the popularity of the show and the huge response anticipated. The short-listed candidates will then go through a selection process — only a chosen few will have a shot at the game and a chance to take home Rs. 1 crore. The CFE questions will be announced on Vijay TV, on radio and in print from December 25 to 30.

Bodhidharma - An outline of his journey. 7am Arivu / 7th Sense.:
Bodhidharma is widely considered as the father of Zen / Chan Buddhism. The word ‘Zen’ is Japan origin. For many years and still in many parts of the world it is popular as Chan Buddhism.
* Bodhidharma was born 4th or 5th century as a son of a king of the empire of Pallavas in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, South of India. Later he gave up the kingdom and moved in search of self being. His real name is said to be Bodhitāra but was changed to Bodhidharma by his Dhyana teacher Prajñātāra. (According to the book ‘Jingde Records of the Transmission of the Lamp’ written by Dàoyuán and published in 1004 CE). In Tibetan he is called as Bodhidharmottāra, meaning ‘The highest dharma of enlightenment. In few books it’s mentioned that Bodhidharma is a Tamil-Brahmin by birth but his followers believes he is a Kshatriya vamsam/caste. Most believable records states that he was born in Pallava kingdom.
* Various scriptures point that he was inspired and taught by an enlightened woman, named Pragyatara. It’s said that she insisted him to go to China. Bodhidharma took Zen to China. He introduced a form of meditation that involved ‘gazing at cave walls’. He started Zen in China. Zen is one of the strangest religions and way far from logic, (And yes a religion doesn’t need logic, Zen is beyond normal). Bodhidharma is said to be the first enlightened man to reach China. Bodhidharma chose a woman for a convinced reason ((Gautam Buddha never tried to include women into his community) Bodhidharma showed that not only man but a woman can be also enlightened. Bodhidharma’s practice created a lot of amusement and ribaldry. He was more willing to dress in woman cloths.
* Many Chinese books states that Bodhidharma was disturbed by seeing the poor state of health of Chinese monks, and hence he started to teach monks various forms of martial arts in order keep body and mind under our own control, the exercises he insisted to practice included ‘the Eighteen Arhat Hands and the Sinew Metamorphosis Classic’.
* Bodhidharma sat for nine years facing a wall in Shaolin Temple, gazing at it. When people asked ‘Why you are not looking at us and why you are always looking at wall?’ his used to say ‘... you all are like wall’.
* It is said that some follower poisoned Bodhidharma as a revenge because he was not been selected as the descendant. And the followers buried him but after few years a government official reported that he saw Bodhidharma walking towards Himalayas.
Bodhidharma is said to be an unafraid man of what he is saying, what he is doing. He knows no fear. Osho says about Bodhidharma that ‘He speaks to himself, that’s why I never thought how other people will think’. According to Osho, after poisoning Bodhidharma was made into a different kind of substance.
Bodhidharma: ‘Pain has to be thankfully accepted, because it is the very seed of Buddha. If there was no suffering, you would by no means hunt for the reality. It is the pain that goes on pushing you to go further than everything.’
* Bodhidharma is said to be very bold towards everybody and is said to be the very reason why he is painted like a bold- vicious man. There are a lot of rumors and controversies in the way all the painting presented Bodhidharma. And there are various forms of him in painting, such as in early paintings showed him as a violent monk, and later as a very soft, tired monk. The second version is currently worshipped around Japan.
Bodhidharma: ‘It is only when we stop seeking outside that we can find the treasures of our mind and life. When we get attached to phenomena then our mind is buffeted by bad and good fortune’.
* In the new age Japan Bodhidharma (Daruma in Japan) is a living symbol, not a lifeless one.

overwhelming response from the audience, is eyeing to direct yet another big star! Well, the
filmmaker's next movie will be with none other than Surya.
Grapevine is abuzz with the news that Venkat Prabhu will be teaming up with Surya for his
next film. The filmmaker has reportedly signed the Ghajini star for his future project. The
proposed film might be delayed, as the actor is currently busy with the promotions of 7aam

Ezham Arivu' Will Be Remade in Hollywood???
Straight from the horse’s mouth and it was silence everywhere in the area, where the media
interaction was hosted. Yeah! It all started when a journalist oppugned A R Murugadoss,
‘Like Mementoes to Ghajini, could you let us know your inspiration for ‘Ezham Arivu’?’
Without a pause, A R Murugadoss stunningly replied, “Maybe, makers of Hollywood film may
remake it.”
‘WHAT IS OPERATION RED?’-THEME OF ‘EZHAM ARIVU’
It all happened during the press meet of ‘Ezham Arivu’ that was held yesterday at Hotel
Residency Tower in Chennai. Addressing the media channels, A R Murugadoss and his entire
crew didn’t miss to sing praises of Red Giant Movies Udhayanidhi Stalin for making it
happen. ‘No one else would have burned candles at both ends for a newfangled project’
started off Murugadoss, who continued adding that it’s a shame and disgrace for the entire
state of Tamil Nadu for having forgotten a hero – BODHIDHARMAN, who is worshipped as a
God in China and Vietnam. He is the Guru of Shaolin Monks and spread Zen across the
country. He is a medical scientist and Osho has authored a book on him for more than 300
pages. ‘I am sure that the film has already achieved 99% success and the result of 1% is
awaited on Diwali’ added A R Murugadoss.
‘Harris Jayaraj frightened urging us to strike with grandiloquence.’- Suriya
‘After you are done watching this film, it’s time for every Tamilian to stand proud and say
‘We are the best in this world’ and so will be the film. We are happy to have unraveled the
hidden history’ said Suriya, who was high on praises for his director A R Murugadoss and
producer Udhayanidhi Stalin. Continuing to shed lights on the legend Bodhidharman, Suriya
uttered, ‘Soon after the release of this film, he will be once again acclaimed as a special
person in the history of Tamil history.
‘Suriya is a Galaxy in himself’-Shruthi Haasan
Suriya and A R Murugadoss didn’t miss to bring the assistant directors into the picture saying
that they were astonished by their fascinating knowledge about everything under the sun.
The technical team has been remarkable and after a long time we will happen to see the
credits of cinematographer Ravi K Chandran in a Tamil movie.
So get ready for the big Diwali treat of ‘Ezham Arivu’ on October 26.
Hat-Trick for Sony BMG:
While piracy of audio is at its realms, nothing could make a better way for the makers to gain
good business in music industry. But now in the past of couple months, it’s been an
incredible success and something unforeseen as the sales of these three albums have
attained its peak.
It’s worth mentioning that the single-track album of ‘Mankatha’ had evovked huge response
followed by full album.
What followed next was Vijay’s ‘Velayudham’ that was touched the senses of mass audiences.
In fact, it’s a record-breaking business for the album scored by Vijay Anthony.
‘Ezham Arivu’ bringing back the combination of Suriya-A R Murugadoss-Harris Jayaraj has
taken a huge leap with the songs rocking on the top of charts.
Nokku Varmam in '7aum Arivu'
Among other things, '7aum Arivu' will specially focus on 'Nokku Varmam', one of the important aspects of 'Varmam', a martial art used in ancient days to face the opponents. "After intense research, director AR Murugadoss has written scenes on Nokku Varmam," sources say.
We had already seen the power of Varmam in 'Indian', where Kamal Haasan would use it to freeze the baddies. But Nokku Varmam doesn't require hands or legs, for those who had perfectly practiced it could perform it with the help of their eyes alone.
"The Tamil word Nokku means 'to see'. Nokku Varmam is a peculiar martial art through which a particular part in the opponent's body could be attacked by mere sight itself. In 7aum Arivu, Suriya appears as a martial arts exponent, who is an expert at Nokku Varmam," sources say.
Shruthi Haasan plays a modern scientist in the film produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies, who dismisses the idea of Nokku Varmam. "For her, everything is science and she calls it hypnotism. However, how she gets convinced later is the crux of the story," sources conclude.

7am Arivu creates history in Kerala:
The Suriya- Shruthi Haasan, AR Murgadoss directed Tamil sci-fi thriller 7aum Arivu, Kerala rights have gone for a new record price.
The film has been purchased by a leading Tamil distributor in Bangalore and distributed through Divya Pictures Ravi for a whopping price.
The market buzz is that 7aum Arivu Kerala rights have been sold at an astronomical Rs 2.50 Crore, the highest ever paid for a Suriya film in the state.
Remember Suriya’s Singam was sold only for 90 lakhs for Kerala territory but the film went on to do business worth Rs 1.75 Cr in the stae.
Divya Pictures is planning to release 7aum Arivu in 100 screens in Kerala for Diwali. It is going to be an interesting battle in Kerala as Tamil hero’s Vijay’s Velayutham and Shah Rukh Khan’s RA.One will be clashing with 7aum Arivu.

What’s the Story of 7am Arivu?
Two stories centering upon guesses, of what 7am Arivu’s
stories could be, have sprung in recent times. One is that of a
saint who knows martial arts gets murdered and he avenges
his death by resuscitating in the 21st century. This sounds
almost close to Mahadeera which could just be a rumor. We
know that AR Murugadoss will come with better films. Another
one doing the rounds is that Shruti Hassan invents a time
machine which takes them to various time periods of the past.
The second one promises to be a sci-fi thriller but 7am Arivu
could well be a hybrid as “Endhiran”, say sources. One has to
wait till the release to see if it is a special film that will make a
significant mark in the history of Tamil cinema.

Threads of thought:
The trailer for the much-awaited A.R. Murugadoss-Suriya film teases with the question ‘Who is
Bodhidharman?
The trailer for “7aum Arivu,” which was launched amidst much fanfare at the Chennai Trade
Center last week was confusing and intriguing in equal measure. If the immediate response
from the die-hard fans of the lead actor Suriya and the director A.R. Murugadoss, who were
gathered at the auditorium was anything to go by, the magnum opus is well set to take top-
billing at the box office on Deepavali next month.
The trailer that starts off with the question “Who is Bodhidharman?” was launched by
National-award-winning actor Dhanush along with Udhayanidhi Stalin, who has produced the
film under the ‘Red Giant Movies’ banner.
The trailer, running just under two minutes, featured Suriya in what appears to be dual (or
multiple) roles, one of which is that of the saffron-robed Buddhist monk Bodhidharman, who
is acknowledged by scholars to have been a prince born in Kanchipuram and who travelled
to China after embracing Buddhism.
The “7aum Arivu” team though kept the cards close to their chests. A.R. Murugadoss said
the film traced the history of the Silk Route between India and China. “As to what else went
from India to China, one has to wait and watch the movie on the big screen,” he said, and
added that his team had made every effort to make the film a cause of pride for Tamils the
world over. It is said to combine the genres of a historical, science fiction and medical
thriller.
Actor Suriya, while answering a question from his brother and actor Karthi, one of the
special invitees for the evening, said he had undergone severe physical hardships in order to
effectively portray the historical character of Bodhidharman. “This is a character based on a
person who is revered for being a monk. Every hardship undertaken was well worth it,” he
said. The striking martial arts pose on the posters clearly shows that.
Karthi said he had never seen Suriya work as hard for a film before. Apart from learning
juggling and circus acts, he also underwent a 15-day special martial arts training in Hong
Kong before the shoot.
Shruti Hasan, who is going to be introduced in Tamil through “7aum Arivu” thanked Suriya
and A.R. Murugadoss for their support.
Another special invitee of the evening was actor Johnny Tri Nguyen, a Vietnam-born U.S.
citizen, who is playing the role of the antagonist. In fact, Johnny’s quicksilver martial arts
moves cover a sizeable portion of the trailer, even more than Suriya’s. The actor has
appeared in a few international martial arts films, including the Thailand star Tony Jaa’s
smash international hit “Tom-Yum-Goong”. He was also the body double for Tobey Maguire
in “Spider-Man”, performing the stunts under the superhero costume. As Karthi pointed out,
Suriya’s martial arts training was prompted entirely by the versatile martial art star he is
pitted against in the film.
The “real hero of the evening,” as the entire “7aum Arivu” team pointed out, was music
director Harris Jayaraj. After the Tamil version of “Ghajini” in 2005, he is back to composing
music for A.R. Murugadoss. The album has six songs, including a Chinese song ‘Rise of
Damo’ written by Madhan Karky. A.R. Murugadoss said the song ‘Innum Enna Thozha’, was
a song that would unite Tamils the world over.
